DR. LORETTA BREUNING, PHD
“You can manage your happy brain chemicals when you know how they work in the state of nature.”

Dr. Loretta Breuning is Founder of the Inner Mammal Institute and author ofHabits of a Happy Brain: Retrain your brain to boost your serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin and endorphin levels. As Professor of Management at California State University, and as a mom, she lost faith in prevailing views of human motivation. She searched for new answers, and found studies of the brain chemistry we share with earlier mammals. Suddenly, everything made sense! She began creating resources to help people manage their inner mammal. The Inner Mammal Institute offers videos, books, podcasts, multimedia, and a training program, to help you make peace with your inner mammal. InnerMammalInstitute.org Her latest book is Tame Your Anxiety: Rewiring Your Brain for Happiness.

Our brain is not designed to release happy chemicals all the time for no reason. The happy chemicals are designed to reward survival behavior. We have a big cortex to help our mammal brain make more long-term decisions about “survival.” But the cortex doesn’t control the happy chemicals, so if you want to feel good, you have to make peace with your inner mammal.

Inner Mammal Institute

The Inner Mammal Institute helps people build their power over their mammalian brain chemistry. Happiness comes from chemicals we’ve inherited from earlier mammals: dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin and endorphin. When you know how they work in animals, your ups and downs make sense. Our happy chemicals evolved to reward survival behaviors, not to make us feel good all the time.
